Mangalagiri: On the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki's birth anniversary, TDP National President N Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the need to resolve the long pending issue before the Central Government regarding Valmiki and Boyce's demand. emphasized. Through a bill in Parliament urged to include Valmiki and Boya communities of Andhra Pradesh in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST).

This is necessary as both these communities living in the plains of Andhra Pradesh are suffering from poverty. These communities have traditionally earned their livelihood by hunting and gathering forest produce. In 1964, the Andhra Pradesh government passed an order stating that the Valmiki/Boya in Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra are one and the same. In 1968, both the communities were included in the ST list regardless of the regions.

The former chief minister said Valmiki and Boya communities were not included in the ST list despite favorable recommendations by the Anantram Commission and several other panels. Naidu told Modi that on December 1, 2017, the Andhra Pradesh cabinet had passed a resolution recommending the inclusion of Valmiki/Boya in the ST list to the Government of India. He informed that the AP SC/ST Commission visited various districts and concluded that Valmiki/Boya needs to be included in the ST list.
