Government to take steps to manufacture solar equipment in the country

New Delhi: The Central Government is going to take a major step towards manufacturing solar equipment in the country. The government has decided to increase the import tax on solar equipment. This was disclosed by Union Power Minister R K Singh. Power Minister R K Singh says, there is a safeguard tax on solar equipment which will be affected in a few years. We will increase the tax on solar equipment in the coming years. The Minister said that an early policy for tax incentives will be formulated.

India had imposed a 25 per cent safeguard tax on solar cells imported from China and Malaysia in July 2018. Power Minister Singh said, the increase in import tax will not affect the bidding process for solar power projects. On Jammu and Kashmir, he said, "We will make full use of India's participation in the water sector for the development of hydropower projects."

Also, steps will be taken to take forward solar projects in Ladakh. "The power purchase agreement is inevitable. The agreement that has been reached cannot be reopened. Recently, the power distribution company of Andhra Pradesh had sought tax reduction from some renewable energy projects.
