Defense minister Shri Rajnath Singh has called upon Government Departments to ensure foolproof management of land for India to become a global manufacturing hub.

He was speaking at the opening session of a webinar held on August 4, 2022, to spread Geographic Information System (GIS)-based applications across Central & State Government departments, Municipal Bodies, and Development Authorities for wider use and adaptability. These applications were created by the Centre of Excellence for Satellite & Unmanned Remote Vehicle Initiative (CoE-SURVEI).

The Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE), Ministry of Defence established the CoE-SURVEI to promote the use of advance technology in data analysis, land management, and land surveying. The defene minister said that the CoE-SURVEI is rapidly approaching being a one-stop centre to satisfy the land survey, analysis, and management-related demands of our nation. Applications on change detection, land use analysis, and 3D image analysis are among those created by CoE-SURVEI.

The defene minister emphasised the necessity for effective and wise management of unique resources like land for its best use, pointing out that as the world's population grows, so does the demand for resources. He asked all interested parties to support the use of technology in land survey and analysis in order to support nation-building.
