Celebrations in India came to a halt with the onset of the pandemic. With education institutes remaining closed and many public establishments shut due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the usual buzz surrounding the Independence Day celebrations went missing this year. There were no rallies and large gatherings that were once organized by colony associations at community halls. The regular practice of distributing sweets and chocolates to children and residents was also not seen this time.
With 3,495 cases, Bengaluru surges in COVID cases
At many places, a few members of colony associations participated in the flag hoisting ceremony, and there they were seen in masks and maintained social distancing. School and college students witnessed the celebrations online and on television as they confined themselves to their places. Even at government departments only a few visitors and officials were permitted to participate in the celebrations.
Andhra's East Godavari district records a majority of cases
At the GHMC head office, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan unfurled the national flag and said as per the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision, Hyderabad was being transformed into a global city. MAUD minister KT Rama Rao is playing a crucial role in this regard and ensuring growth in all sectors, he said. The Independence Day celebrations were organized on the premises of Institution of Lokayukta of Telangana at Basheerbagh on Saturday. Justice CV Ramulu, Lokayukta, unfurled the national flag and V Niranjan Rao, Upa-Lokayukta, and officers of the institution participated.
