Like the Galwan Valley in the China border area near Leh, the Barahoti Valley bordering Chamoli in Uttarakhand is also full of contrasting geographical conditions. A cyclone moves here in the afternoon. Indian and Chinese forces patrol both sides of this disputed Barahoti area from morning to afternoon, but after the afternoon, due to the cyclone, the army returns to their base camp. This region remains covered in snow for six months during winter. The last Rimkhim outpost of ITBP is located about 105 km from Joshimath, the last municipal area of Chamoli district. Further from here is the No Mens Land Barahoti Area. Barahoti hails from Chamoli district, while China is trying to establish its hegemony. Barahoti has been infiltrated repeatedly from China. When trade on the Indo-Tibet border was smooth, in 1959, China started moving along the border with Uttarakhand, which resulted in a war between India and China in the year 1962.

Bugyal spread far and wide in Barahoti
After this war, the Indo-Tibet trade came to a complete halt. Before the war, the largest market for trade in India and Tibet was Barahoti. China always tries to describe this place as its border. With this Barahoti Bugyal is more than 10 km. The river Hoagi Gaad flows in the Barahoti region, which flows into the lower region of India and joins the Dholiganga and merges with the Alaknanda at Vishnuprayag on the Badrinath highway. Barahoti has far-flung Bugyal and rocky portions.

No permission to carry weapons at three border posts
After the war of 1962, the ITBP jawans used to patrol in the Barahoti area with the gun's hose down. In the year 2000, it was decided that the soldiers of India would not carry arms along with the three border posts of the country. These posts are Barahoti of Uttarakhand, Karauli and Shipki of Himachal Pradesh. Here ITBP jawans patrol in civil dress.
