NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar stated on Tuesday that India is dedicated to promoting capacity building and skill development among African youth.
"We are dedicated to promoting skill development and capacity building among young Africans. You may recall, in this regard, that we announced 50,000 scholarships during IAFS-III in 2015, and that more than 32,000 of those scholarship spots have already been filled "Speaking at the 17th CII-EXIM Bank Conclave on India-Africa Growth Partnership, the minister made the statement.
The Minister stated that the fact that various high-ranking leaders, ministers, and officials from Africa have attended Indian universities and other institutions is a source of pride for India. Apart from this, the ITEC programme has also trained a number of African students and authorities.
The e-VidyaBharti and e-ArogyaBharti networks for tele-education and tele-medicine, respectively, were inaugurated in 2019, said Jaishankar, who also noted that under these efforts, youth from 19 African nations have registered in a range of degree and diploma programmes.
Through the establishment of IT Centers, Science and Technology Parks, and Entrepreneurship Development Centers (EDC), India has assisted African nations in promoting digital transformation. The minister stated, "I believe there is a great opportunity in the technological field, and with our emphasis on openness and trust, India and Africa make ideal partners.
