BERLIN: India concluded its remarkable journey at the 2023 Special Olympics World Games, clinching a total of 202 medals, including an impressive tally of 76 gold, 75 silver, and 51 bronze. The final set of medals was secured by the extraordinary performances on the athletics track.

The Indian athletes showcased their exceptional skills in track events, earning a remarkable six medals, comprising 2 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze. The spotlight shone brightly on Aanchal Goyal (400m, Level B Female) and Ravimathi Arumugam (400m, Level C Female), the remarkable gold medalists who left their competitors trailing behind, ascending to the pinnacle of victory.

Saket Kundu, who had previously claimed a silver medal in the mini javelin Level B, achieved a rare double act in track and field, securing a bronze in the Level B 400m event.

Dr. Mallika Nada, Chairperson of Special Olympics Bharat, expressed her enthusiasm for the Indian contingent's performance at the Berlin Games. She emphasized not only their outstanding achievements but also stressed the importance of inclusivity and acceptance for these remarkable athletes within mainstream society.

"A significant number of our athletes have faced various forms of social discrimination and have been unjustly labeled as non-contributing members of society in certain circles. Such outdated and erroneous perceptions have been proven wrong by their outstanding performances in the realm of sports. Their strength, speed, focus, and discipline speak volumes about their capabilities. I sincerely hope that this remarkable showcase of talent will inspire greater recognition and encourage us to expand the boundaries of inclusivity within our society."
