Moscow: In the most modern and lethal weapons of the Indian Army, now another deadly weapon is about to get included. India and Russia have finalized the deal for advanced AK-47 203 rifles. The special thing is that unlike the old model, this rifle is very effective for high areas like the Himalayas. This deal has been made at a critical time in view of the ongoing tensions along the border from China to Ladakh to the northeastern states and military conflicts in recent times.

Giving information to the Russian media, it has been told that this decision has been taken during the Defense Minister of India Rajnath Singh's visit to Russia. This will be the most advanced version of the AK-47, which will replace the Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) assault rifle. The use of INSAS has been going on since 1996 and has started causing problems like jamming at the height of the Himalayas and cracks of the magazine.

According to Russia's leading media agency, the Indian Army requires 7.7 lakh rifles, of which one lakh will be imported and the rest will be produced in India. The rifles will be manufactured in India under the joint operation of Indo-Russia Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL). The deal was signed between the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), Kalashnikov Concern and Rosoboronexport.
