New Delhi: India has provided financial assistance of $250 million (Rs 1840 crore) to Maldives to overcome the financial crisis. The Indian Embassy in male, the capital of Maldives, has provided this assistance. The country, mainly dependent on tourism, is facing a huge hardship due to the corona epidemic.
Meanwhile, China has given notice to Maldives to pay a instalment of one million dollars (Rs 74 crore) to pay its debts. Now, with the help given by India, Maldives will be able to repay China's debt instalment. President Ibrahim Mohammad Salih has expressed gratitude to India for this financial assistance given to Maldives by India. In a tweet, Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohammad Salih thanked India and PM Narendra Modi.
In a tweet, President Salih wrote, "Whenever Maldives needs a friend, India has always come forward on this occasion. In a tweet, he further wrote that sincere thanks PM Modi and common people of India for the official handover of $25 million (Rs 1840 crore) as financial assistance. Replying to a tweet by Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohammad Salih, PM Modi termed it as a religion of a neighbouring friendly country.
