India gifts medical oxygen plant to Nepal to help corona epidemic

New Delhi: India has gifted Nepal a medical oxygen plant to deal with the corona crisis. India's Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra handed over a 960 liter per minute (LPM) medical oxygen plant to Minister of State for Health Umesh Shrestha during an event in the Ministry of Health and Population. The plant has been set up at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) and is designed to provide 5 LPM of oxygen per capita with a total capacity of 960 LPM.

The DEBEL medical oxygen plant developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) supports serving 200 patients simultaneously. Vinay Mohan Kwatra highlighted the importance of a deep and multi-faceted partnership between India and Nepal. He said the gift symbolizes India's continued commitment to Nepal in tackling the Corona epidemic.

Vinay Mohan Kwatra said the Government of India will stand by Nepal and its people to fight the epidemic and provide necessary help at all times in accordance with bilateral relations. On the other hand, Umesh Shrestha said the oxygen plant is an important health structure that will strengthen Nepal's efforts to tackle the corona epidemic. Oxygen is a major clinical gas for the treatment of corona patients.
