India expressed deep sorrow on Wednesday over the passing of retired Colonel Waibhav Anil Kale, an Indian national who had been serving with the UN in Gaza.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) conveyed its condolences, stating that India's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, as well as its missions in Tel Aviv and Ramallah, are actively aiding in bringing Colonel Kale's remains back to India.

Colonel Kale tragically lost his life when the vehicle he was traveling in came under attack in Gaza's Rafah region on Monday.

"We are deeply saddened by the death of Colonel Waibhav Anil Kale (Retd), Security Coordination Officer in the UN Department of Safety and Security (DSS) in Gaza on May 13," the MEA expressed.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones," it added.

The MEA further stated, "Our Permanent Mission to the UN in New York and our Missions in Tel Aviv and Ramallah are extending all assistance in the repatriation of mortal remains to India and continue to be in touch with relevant authorities regarding the investigation into the incident."

Colonel Kale's passing has deeply saddened the Indian nation, highlighting the risks faced by individuals serving in conflict zones under the banner of international organizations. His dedication to ensuring safety and security in a volatile region like Gaza is commendable, and his sacrifice will be remembered with honor.
