BEIJING: India, as it prepares to host the upcoming SCO summit, has unveiled the magnificent 'New Delhi Hall' at the headquarters of the esteemed organization. This remarkable creation beautifully captures the essence of a "mini-India.", said India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Situated in Beijing's prestigious diplomatic area, the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) serves as the base for its eight member nations, including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan. While the original six founding members have their own halls, showcasing their unique cultural heritage, India has become the first country to unveil its own 'New Delhi Hall' ahead of the virtual SCO summit on July 4.
Expressing his delight, Jaishankar remarked, "I am thrilled to inaugurate the New Delhi Hall today at the SCO Secretariat, in the presence of the esteemed SCO Secretary General and my distinguished colleagues." He further added, "It gives me immense pleasure to announce that this inauguration takes place during India's first-ever SCO presidency, which will soon culminate with the SCO Summit."
The New Delhi Hall serves as a microcosm of Indian culture within the SCO Secretariat, as emphasized by Jaishankar. Through its intricate patterns and motifs, the hall showcases the profound artistic traditions and architectural craftsmanship prevalent across India. "By immersing yourself in the New Delhi Hall, you will experience the depth of India's artistic heritage and cultural identity," he said.
While the hall boasts a traditional design, it is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology to facilitate both physical and virtual meetings.Jaishankar expressed his hope that the New Delhi Hall would become a valuable addition to the SCO Secretariat, enriching its multicultural and multinational character with the vibrant hues of India. He emphasized that the hall embodies India's unwavering commitment to nurturing the spirit of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' or 'The World is One Family.'
"The New Delhi Hall will serve as a testament to India's dedication in promoting this timeless concept," he said. Undoubtedly, the New Delhi Hall will play a significant role in accommodating the Secretariat's expanding activities and meetings, which continue to grow each passing year.
