NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had a productive meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Washington on June 22.

Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, stating, "I had a great meeting with US NSA @jakesullivan46 in South Block this morning. Our discussions were focused on the preparations for PM @narendramodi's upcoming visit to the US."

The two officials also deliberated on global strategic developments and their implications for the partnership between India and the United States. Sullivan arrived in India on Tuesday, responding to an invitation from his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval.

On Tuesday evening, Sullivan had the opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Modi and convey President Joe Biden's message. President Biden eagerly anticipates welcoming Prime Minister Modi during his state visit, which is scheduled from June 21 to June 25. The invitation to visit the US was extended to Prime Minister Modi and First Lady Jill Biden by President Biden himself.

As part of the visit, Prime Minister Modi will be attending a state dinner at the White House, a prestigious honor that has not been accorded to an Indian leader for 14 years. The last Indian leader to receive this distinction was former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was hosted by then US President Barack Obama in 2009.

Moreover, the US Congress has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to address a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and Senate. This will be his second opportunity to address the US Congress, as he previously did so in 2016, joining the ranks of only five other Indian Prime Ministers who have had this privilege.

Jake Sullivan is an American diplomat and policy expert who has served as the United States National Security Advisor since January 2021. Born on November 28, 1976, he has emerged as a prominent figure in the field of international relations and national security.

Sullivan possesses a remarkable academic background, having graduated from Yale Law School and pursuing a master's degree in international relations from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He also gained valuable experience during his tenure as a senior policy advisor to Hillary Clinton during her tenure as Secretary of State.

With a deep understanding of global affairs, Sullivan has been instrumental in shaping the United States' foreign policy agenda. He has consistently emphasized the importance of multilateralism, cooperation, and strategic alliances to address global challenges effectively.
