A historic event, the inaugural Hindu-American Summit for political engagement, is set to take place at the US Capitol Hill on June 14. Organized by a group of Indian Americans (Indian Diaspora), the summit aims to shed light on the concerns and challenges faced by the Hindu community, seeking the attention and support of lawmakers.
Romesh Japra, the founder and chairman of American4Hindus, expressed his enthusiasm for this groundbreaking event, highlighting the significance of Hindu-American leaders and organizations joining forces for a political cause. While recognizing the substantial contributions of the Hindu community across various spheres such as culture, society, and economics, he also acknowledged a relatively limited involvement in politics.
The summit aims to bridge this gap by bringing together 130 prominent figures and leaders from 20 Hindu and Indian organizations. Notable attendees include Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, alongside other esteemed representatives.
Japra hopes that the presence and speeches of these influential political figures will inspire and encourage leaders to actively engage in the political arena, fostering a similar enthusiasm among the younger generation. Expressing excitement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to the United States in June, Japra emphasized the impact of Modi's global presence and applauded his efforts in positioning India on the world stage.
Japra stressed that such accomplishments serve as a catalyst for Hindu-Americans and Indian Americans to wield greater influence within their local communities. The summit will feature a range of Congressional leaders from both the Democratic and Republican parties who will address the conference, further highlighting the bipartisan support and recognition of the Hindu-American community.
The summit aims to facilitate dialogue and engagement, ensuring that the voices of the Hindu community are heard and their concerns are addressed by policymakers.
