India, Russia underline their commitment to enhancing counter-terror cooperation

New Delhi: In Moscow, during the 12th Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter Terrorism and India-Russia bilateral meetings on UN and multilateral issues, India and Russia reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing counterterrorism cooperation on both a bilateral and multilateral level.

On May 3-4, Secretary (West) Sanjay Verma visted Moscow for the negotiations. Secretary (West) Sanjay Verma and Oleg Syromolotov, the Russian Federation's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, shared leadership of the 12th JWG on CT on May 3. Participants in the conference from both sides included representatives of the relevant departments and agencies.

Both parties reviewed contemporary terrorist concerns on a global and regional scale as well as their experiences fighting terrorism and extremism. The Russian side applauded the ratification of the New Delhi Declaration, which focused on preventing the exploitation of new and emerging technology for terrorist goals, and expressed appreciation for India's position as the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee's Chair in 2022.

According to a communiqué, all parties reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing bilateral and international counterterrorism cooperation.

On May 4, bilateral discussions between India and Russia about UN-related problems were held with Sergey Vershinin, the Russian Federation's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Both parties engaged in lengthy discussions on a range of UNSC-related topics, including its reform. It also noted that Russia reiterated its support for India's inclusion as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
