India so far reports 161 Omicron cases: Mansukh Mandaviya

New Delhi:   India has reported 161 cases of the new coronavirus variant Omicron said by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.  "India currently has 161 Omicron cases... We are monitoring the situation with experts on a daily basis”, while responding to a debate on the COVID-19 situation in Rajya Sabha, the minister stated.

He stated that the government has taken precautions in case the virus spreads. "We have arranged a buffer stock of important medicines based on our experience during the first and second waves to ensure that we do not face problems if variant spreads." He stated that the states and union territories have an adequate supply of COVID-19 vaccines for vaccination drives, and that the country's vaccine manufacturing capacity has also increased.

"Today, all states and UTs have an adequate supply of vaccines, with 17 crore doses available. Our manufacturing capability has grown. India now has the capacity to produce 31 crore doses of vaccine per month. It will increase to 45 crore doses per month in the next two months "said the minister.

"So far, under PM Modi's leadership and with the help of our healthcare workers, 88 percent of first doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered, and 58 percent of second doses have been administered. Today, the vast majority of India's population is immunised "He continued.
