India has strated its vaccination drive on January 16 against coronavirus. India is also helping other countries by supplying vaccines. India on Sunday sent corona vaccines to Afghanistan by a Mumbai-Delhi-Kabul Air India flight.

Last month, Tahir Qadiry, Afghanistan's Charge d'Affaires had said Afghanistan will receive 500,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine from India. Qadiry took to Twitter and wrote, "In the continuation of admirable humanitarian gesture and bilateral bonhomie, India will soon send 500,000 doses of vaccine to Afghanistan. This will expedite our efforts to tackle this medical emergency. Immensely thankful to our allies."

Till now, India has supplied Indian-made corona vaccines to neighbouring countries including Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh under neighbour first policy.

Meanwhile, 238 candidate vaccines are still being developed worldwide -- 63 of them in clinical trials -- in countries including Germany, China, Russia. Brazil began its national vaccination program in mid-January and has immunized more than 3.3 million people so far.  The Coronavirus cases rise continuously across the globe, with more than 106.3 million infected by the deadly contagion. While 77,965,615 have recovered, 2,318,841 have died so far. As the world is struggling to contain the pandemic, vaccination is also underway in some other European countries with the already-authorized coronavirus vaccines.
