India suspends UK flights amid concern over new coronavirus strain

New Delhi: India on Monday announced a temporary bans flights from the United Kingdom following the announcement by Britain that a new highly-infectious strain of the coronavirus goes "Out of Control" in UK. 

The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that flights from the UK to India shall remain in suspension till 11:59 pm, December 31. The suspension comes into force at 11.59 pm, December 22, i.e. Tuesday. The ministry of civil Aviation announced that considering the prevailing situation in the UK, Indian  has decided that all flights originating from the UK to India shall be temporarily suspended till 11:59 pm, 31st December.  The ministry said that passengers arriving into India from the UK till the suspension comes into force would be subject to mandatory COVID-19 tests.

Before India, many nations including Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium banned flights from the UK.British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the infectiousness of the new strain had forced his hand into imposing a lockdown across much of England over the Christmas period. The novel coronavirus has killed at least 1,685,785 people since the outbreak emerged in China last December.
