NEW DELHI: The Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) met here on Monday to discuss ways to combat terrorism. The meeting is attended by delegates from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries.
The Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure is a permanent anti-terrorist squad stationed in Uzbekistan that is part of the SCO. The major goal is to encourage member countries to work together against terrorism.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization leadership is rotated every year among the member states. India is now the chairperson of the executive council.
The security situation in Afghanistan is expected to be discussed, as the Taliban has employed violence and it is believed that it could become a terror launch pad and drug smuggling hub, according to reports.
From May 16 to 19, anti-terror teams from China, Pakistan, Russia, and other Asian countries will compete. The summit is attended by the National Security Advisers/Secretaries of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan's National Security Councils.
