NEW DELHI: Union Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh announced on Wednesday that the government would shortly unveil its "Blue Economic Policy."

"Ocean-based businesses are expected to employ 40 million people by 2030. The Deep Ocean Mission is the outcome of our desire to discover the ocean's limitless possibilities. The mineral wealth which is hidden in the sea, as well thermal energy which is in the sea water, can give new heights to the development of the country." He made the remarks at an event to mark “World Oceans Day” at the Ministry headquarters in New Delhi.

"When India turns 100, the R&D and exploration operations in the Amrit Kaal of the following 25 years will be a significant feature of the Indian economy. We will have a Ministry of Ocean Industry in 20 years, just as we have a Ministry of Earth Sciences presently "he added.

"Sea trials of the 500 metres rated shallow water version of the manned submersible are expected to take place in early part of 2023, followed by the MATSYA 6000, the deep-water manned submersible, which will be ready for trials by the second quarter of 2024," Singh said, adding that trials for both the space and ocean manned missions have advanced to an advanced stage and the unique feat will be achieved, most likely, in the second half of 2023."
