The Indian cricket team is unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, according to sources cited on Thursday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to request that the International Cricket Council (ICC) host the matches in a hybrid model, potentially in Dubai or Sri Lanka, sources revealed.
This prestigious tournament is set to take place from February 19 to March 9, with March 10 reserved as a backup day. It will be a significant event for Pakistan, which hasn't hosted a major ICC event since 1996. Despite hosting the entire Asia Cup in 2008 and some matches of the same event last year, this marks a notable moment for the 2017 champions.
Last month, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) submitted a draft schedule to the ICC, with India’s matches planned to be held in Lahore, including the highly anticipated game between the arch-rivals on March 1. However, there has been no official confirmation from the BCCI regarding their travel plans at this time.
“It is highly unlikely that the team will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, but a final decision will be made by the government. In that case, a hybrid model is being considered. India may play their matches in the UAE or Sri Lanka, similar to the arrangement for the Asia Cup. Although the ICC will also have its say, this is our current plan. We will see how things develop in the future. As of now, it appears the tournament will be played in a hybrid model,” a source stated.
