New Delhi: Team India, which have been at the top of the ICC Test Championship, will play the first Test match with hosts New Zealand at the Basin Reserve ground here from Friday. India's effort will be to maintain its excellent performance in Test cricket. At the same time, the Kiwi team will try to make a new start in the Test at home. New Zealand had to face defeat in the recent Test series against Australia.

India made a clean sweep of New Zealand 5–0 in the beginning of this tour. The New Zealand team returned to the ODIs and won the series 3–0. Now both teams are ready to face new challenges in the long format of the game. The test match will start at four in the morning, according to Indian time. The biggest concern for India is its opening pair. Since the injury of Rohit Sharma, the question is constantly being raised who will start the innings with Mayank Agarwal. Team India has two options in the form of Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill. Of these two, Shaw is believed to be making his debut in New Zealand. Shaw is a regular opener batsman and has also started the innings in Tests for India.

India's final XI (probable): Virat Kohli (captain), Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jaspreet Bumrah
