Auckland: New Zealand has made a comeback in the ODI series against Team India after facing a 5–0 defeat in the T20 series. The host has also registered a resounding victory in the one-day match in Auckland after Hamilton. After winning the first two matches, the New Zealand team's acting captain Tom Latham has praised the team after winning the second one-day match.

New Zealand beat India by 22 runs in the second ODI. After the match, Latham said, "This is a great win. In the last match, the batsmen gave us the victory, while the bowlers played an important role in this match." The victory in the second ODI, however, was not one sided as Ravindra Jadeja and Navdeep Saini were leading Team India to victory. Kyle Jamieson sent Saini to the pavilion and brought New Zealand back into the match. Latham said, "If you take quick wickets, then you are always in the match. In the end, the partnership we had was very important."

However, Lotham was not convinced on his team's victory until India's final wicket was dropped. He said, "I was not satisfied till the last wicket. I was changing the bowlers. He kept coming back and Kyle made a great performance in debut."
