Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting on Saturday to discuss in depth the strategy to meet the challenges of the agriculture sector.

It is proposed to set up a separate export board for doing export-based farming and marketing of produce internationally. Export Promotion Councils set up for specific agricultural commodities will help farmers in implementing the provision of agri cluster and contract farming. Farming will be encouraged according to the needs of the international market in advance. It was also considered to remove the legal hurdles coming in the way of such farming.

The meeting chaired by PM Modi emphasized on the use of modern technology in agriculture so that agricultural produce can be internationally competitive. This will reduce the cost while the yield quality will be better. To make domestic farmers globally competitive, it was also considered to be equipped with all kinds of facilities. Along with the conflicting views on biotechnology in crops, reduction in input cost was also considered. Home Minister Amit Shah, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took part in this meeting.
