GUJRAT: India, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), is set to introduce the Global Initiative on Digital Health on August 19th, during the ongoing G20 summit held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Taking place from August 17th to 19th, the G20 Health Ministers' meeting, a part of the G20 India Presidency, is being hosted in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Last Friday, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of WHO, commended India's advancements in healthcare coverage and initiatives.

The primary objective of this framework is to harmonize worldwide endeavors in digital health and expand the utilization of cutting-edge technologies in healthcare solutions. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, "The Global Initiative on Digital Health has been established in collaboration with WHO, aiming to foster cooperation among nations and organizations to realize this transformative vision."

Dr. Ghebreyesus highlighted the importance of the Global Initiative on Digital Health, stating, "Digital technology holds the potential to revolutionize healthcare at both local and global levels. The launch of the Global Initiative on Digital Health under India's G20 Presidency aligns with the WHO's Digital Health Strategy."

This significant endeavor will provide support for the WHO's global strategy on digital health and will also bolster other initiatives, such as the WHO global digital health certification network," he remarked.

On August 18th, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the value of digital solutions and innovations in achieving "equitable and inclusive" outcomes. He underscored that India's e-Sanjeevani platform has facilitated an impressive 140 million telehealth consultations to date. Additionally, he highlighted the remarkable achievement of India's COWIN platform, which has orchestrated the largest vaccination campaign in human history.
