India is set to launch its much-awaited Geo Imaging Satellite GSAT-1 on August 12, amid preparations for the Independence Day celebrations. The satellite will be launched on Earth through GSLV-F10 on August 12 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The satellite has been codenamed eOS-03 (EOS-3).

The same ISRO has reported that the satellite will be launched on August 12 at 5.43 am. However, it will depend on the weather conditions. EOS-03 is a highly advanced satellite, which will be placed in earth's orbit with the help of a GSLV F10 vehicle. So far, the launch of this satellite was averted due to corona infection.

Earlier, on 28th February this year, ISRO had also introduced 18 small satellites. These included domestic and foreign satellites. Minister of State for Space Jitendra Singh had recently claimed in Parliament that EOS-3 is capable of imaging 4-5 times a day across the country and is suitable for monitoring water sources, crops, vegetation conditions, and forest area change. It will also provide accurate information on floods and cyclones. According to media reports, the rocket uses a 4 m diameter given-shaped payload fairing (heat shield) for the first time.
