Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said he believes that India would become a hub for vehicle manufacture within the next five years. Gadkari said almost all reputed automobile brands are present in India and the country is working on technologies involving ethanol, methanol, bio-diesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied natural gas (LNG), electric and green hydrogen.

Earlier, on August 13, the Prime Minister addressed the Gujarat Investor Summit through a video conference, when he said, “Whether ethanol, hydrogen fuel or electric vehicles, these government priorities make the industry aggressive. Participation is very important. In the midst of this change, it is just as important to protect our environment, our land, our resources and our raw materials.”

The prime minister said, this policy will play a key role in removing unfit vehicles from our roads in a scientific manner. It will modernize the vehicular population on our city roads," adding that India should work for “clean, congestion-free and convenient mobility" in the 21st century.
