In a historic move, Cambodia Angkor Air, the national flag carrier of Cambodia, has announced the launch of the first-ever direct flight service between India and Cambodia. Starting from June 16, travelers can fly directly between Phnom Penh and New Delhi four times a week, with flights scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Ambassador Koy Kuong of the Royal Embassy of Cambodia to India expressed optimism about the significant boost in tourism between the two nations. He anticipates a doubling of tourist numbers year-on-year, attributing this growth to the introduction of direct flight connections and the rising demand for medical tourism in India.

Prior to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, approximately 75,000 Indian tourists visited Cambodia annually. However, due to travel restrictions, this number dwindled to around 45,000 per year by 2021, according to the Ambassador. Nevertheless, with the commencement of direct flights, he expects a resurgence in tourism activities.

Moreover, Ambassador Kuong highlighted India's appeal as a destination for medical treatment, citing lower costs compared to neighboring countries. He foresees an influx of Cambodian patients traveling to India for medical purposes, attracted by the affordability of healthcare services.

Eng Molina, Chief Commercial Officer of Cambodia Angkor Airline, disclosed that the round-trip pricing per person for the New Delhi-Phnom Penh route is approximately Rs 23,000, inclusive of taxes. This competitive pricing aims to make air travel more accessible and convenient for travelers between the two countries.
