External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held discussions with the top leadership of India during the two-day visit to Seychelles and during this time India resolved to further strengthen the strategic relationship with India in the post-Corona era. Jaishankar, who arrived here from the United Arab Emirates, also visited Bahrain as part of his visit to the three countries that started on Tuesday.

Jaishankar met Seychelles' newly-elected Indian-origin President Wavell Ramakalavan on Friday and wished him a recent victory in the election. S. Jaishankar and Ramakalavan discussed the historically strong ties between the two countries based on a shared belief in the rule of law and the values of democracy.

"He reiterated India's resolve to further expand the strategic partnership between India and Seychelles after the Corona," according to a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry on Saturday. Seychelles spoke of importance in the '(security and development for all in the region)' approach, which shows India's policy towards the Indian Ocean region. Being a neighbor across the water sector, Seychelles is also part of India's policy of 'prioritizing neighbor'. "Jaishkantar also conveyed a private message of PM Narendra Modi to Ramakalvan. India has invited the President of Seychelles to visit India in 2021. Jaishankar tweeted after the meeting with Ramakalavan, "We talked about security cooperation, strong partnership with us and old relations between individuals."
