New Delhi: In a bid to check the combat readiness of its aircraft, The Indian Air Force will carry out a 2-day exercise in the North-East involving most of its frontline fighter jets and other assets deployed in the region amid the fresh worries between Indian and Chinese troops in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh following the last week's face-off in the area, officials said.
The exercise is taking place at the same time as a face-off between Indian and Chinese troops at the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh on December 9, which was preceded by many attempts to breach airspace.
"This week, a combined training exercise with the Indian Air Force is planned to be conducted in the eastern sector to assess the preparedness of the aircraft. The training exercise has been well prepared "sources said.
"Approximately three times in the past several weeks, Chinese drones have moved toward our positions on the LAC, necessitating the dispatch of our fighter jets on two or three separate instances. To combat the potential of an air violation, the Su-30MKI jets had to be scrambled "sources reported.
In a statement to the House of Representatives, Indian troops resisted Chinese forces' attempts to violate the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Tawang Sector's Yangtse area and unilaterally alter the status quo with firmness and resolve. The minister stated, "The Indian Army gallantly restrained the PLA from invading our territory and forced them to return to their stations.
According to defence sources, Chinese drones drove very aggressively toward Indian positions on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh prior to the clash, leading the Indian Air Force to scramble its Su-30MKI fighter jet aircraft in the area.
On December 13, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed the Rajya Sabha that Chinese PLA troops attempted to cross the Line of Actual Control in the Yangtse region of the Arunachal Pradesh Tawang Sector and unilaterally change the status quo, but they were thwarted by prompt action by Indian military commanders and returned to their positions.
The Defence Minister assured the Upper House during a speech in the Rajya Sabha that "our troops are committed to safeguarding our territorial integrity and would continue to defeat any effort made on it."
