New Delhi: On the occasion of the 76th Army Day, Chief of Army, General Manoj Pande, addressed the nation, highlighting the evolving security landscape. General Pande commended the Indian Army and government's collaborative efforts, noting success in stabilizing the situation in Manipur, attributing it to peace talks with local insurgent groups.
In his address, General Pande emphasized positive developments in the North-East region due to crucial peace agreements and talks with local insurgent factions. Acknowledging the pivotal role of government policies in restoring peace, he praised the active involvement of the government and the Indian Army in controlling the situation in Manipur. Despite the challenging environment, General Pande lauded the soldiers for their patience and talent in minimizing damage.
Efforts are actively underway to establish peace in Manipur, the Army Chief assured. He further reported that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir's western borders is under control. However, he expressed concern about a recent upswing in terrorist activities in several areas over the last few months.
"Our priority is to enhance modern infrastructure with the cooperation of other agencies. While the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is stable along the western borders, there has been an increase in terrorist activities in specific regions. Ceasefire along the Line of Control (LOC) persists, but infiltration attempts indicate the lingering threat of terrorism across the border," stated General Pande.
Ensuring readiness to face any challenge, the Army Chief highlighted concrete steps taken to bolster capabilities on the northern borders. Emergency procurement principles facilitated the import of modern equipment, including technologically advanced weapons. Special grants have been allocated for critical infrastructure development in border areas.
Expressing pride in the Indian Army's resilience, General Pande asserted that security challenges have been confronted with determination and commitment. He commended the reduction in violence in Jammu and Kashmir due to continuous efforts by security forces. Collaborating with stakeholders, the Army remains dedicated to eradicating terrorism from the country.
Looking towards the future, General Pande positioned India on the cusp of a new era. He emphasized the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) as the country approaches its 100th year of independence, highlighting the crucial role the Indian Army plays in creating a secure environment.
Advancements in automation, digitization, and networking were acknowledged as tools to enhance efficiency in systems and functions. General Pande highlighted the Agnipath scheme as a significant step in human resource management, contributing to nation-building efforts, particularly in border areas. The Army continues its endeavors by aligning with state and central government projects to propel the nation forward.
