The Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane's planned a three-day crucial visit to Nepal from 4 November. The meet is expected to have an important diplomatic talks with India looking at reclining the relations with Nepal. The meet is scheduled to hold extensive talks with the top civilian and military brass of Nepal, over a various issues including the further boosting the management of the nearly 1,800 km-long border between the two countries. The meet is aimed to strengthen overall ties including in the areas of defence and security.

Top civilian from Nepal also includes army chief counterpart General Purna Chandra Thapa. An age-old tradition of conferring the Indian Army chief with the honorary rank of 'General of the Nepal Army' by Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari at an event in Kathmandu started in 1950 will also be followed. India also confers the honorary rank of 'General of Indian Army' to the Nepal Army Chief. The leaders of the two countries have often be noted as the age-old "Roti-Beti" relationship.

This is the first high-level meet after Nepal claiming the areas of Uttarkhand as the part of its territory. In wake of the greater efforts by China to expand its influence with Myanmar, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan, Indian Government is rejuvenating the relations in these regions.
