New Delhi: Indian army handed over 159 indigenously developed vehicles & equipment to UN Peacekeeping for their Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA1), said an Indian army spokesperson in a tweet @adgpi.

Earlier, the Indian Army received 16 "Made in India" Kalyani M4 armoured vehicles for the United Nations peacekeeping assignment.

Several of the trucks sent out were produced by Bharat Forge Limited and have modern technology, better explosive blast resistance, and sophisticated equipment. The quick-reaction fighting vehicles have the capacity to transport a platoon of 20 to 25 infantrymen.

India has a long history of participation in UN peacekeeping, giving more of its own resources than any other nation. Almost 253,000 Indians have participated in 49 of the 71 UN peacekeeping missions that have been deployed around the world since 1948.

India, a founding member of the UN, firmly supports the organization's goals and guiding ideals. It has greatly aided in achieving the objectives of the UN's charter and modernising its specialised programmes and agencies.

India, a fervent supporter of reformed multilateralism, is in favour of a thorough reform of the UN and its institutions to take into account the realities of the twenty-first century and enable more effective collective action.

India was the first nation to send an entirely female force to the UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia in 2007.

One of the numerous things Indian peacekeepers offer to the people they work with for the organisation is medical treatment. Also, they carry out specialist jobs including engineering and veterinary support.

India was the first nation to make a contribution to the Trust Fund on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, which was established in 2016. India has also sent 15 Military Commanders on various missions.

Around 175 Indian peacekeepers who were working for the UN and participating in various peacekeeping operations also lost their lives. With about 5500 troops, India is the second-largest contribution overall.
