New Delhi: In a landmark event, the Indian Army has unveiled "Satark Park," a memorial dedicated to the valiant Military Intelligence (MI) personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Located in the Wanowrie area of Pune Cantonment, the park pays tribute to 40 MI heroes who have fallen since 1962, primarily during operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the North-Eastern borders.
Inspired by the MI motto "Sada Satark" (always alert), the park features busts of decorated MI martyrs such as Kirti Chakra Awardees Naik Pratap Singh and Brigadier Ravi Datt Mehta, and Shaurya Chakra Awardees Sepoy Om Shiv Sharma, Naik Jangbir Singh, and Havildar S Samy Kannan. These busts are accompanied by descriptions of their courageous contributions.
Constructed and maintained by Roadway Solutions India Infra Ltd, with support from the Military Intelligence Training School and Depot (MITSD), the park stands as a symbol of the intelligence community’s valour and dedication. Colonel Leena Bajaj, wife of Shaurya Chakra recipient Late Captain Jitesh Bhutani, emphasized the significance of the memorial for the families of fallen soldiers, expressing deep gratitude for honoring these "unsung heroes."
Lt. Gen. Pradeep Kumar Chahal, Colonel Commandant of the Intelligence Corps, highlighted the park's unique approach, aiming to inspire children and young minds through stories of bravery. Unlike traditional statues, the park is designed as a living space where visitors can reflect on the sacrifices made by MI personnel.
Satark Park features a cement platform engraved with the MI Corps Geet, a tank, and a unique map of India, symbolizing the nation's security and the role of Military Intelligence in safeguarding it. The use of weatherproof resin and fiberglass busts ensures that the memory of these heroes remains enduring.
The park joins Pune's other notable military memorials, such as the National War Memorial, Southern Command, and aims to inspire future generations by keeping the legacy of Military Intelligence alive.
