MOSCOW: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Russia in July, the Indian community residing in the country has put forth a significant request. They seek permission to build the first Hindu temple in Moscow, a proposal advocated by Sita Sammy Kotwani, President of the Indian Business Alliance and the Indian Cultural & National Centre.
Kotwani emphasized that this Hindu temple would not only serve as a cultural hub and a focal point for Indian traditions but also symbolize the strong bond between Indians residing in Russia.
Furthermore, the temple is expected to attract more Indian tourists to Russia, thereby bolstering tourism between the two nations. Over the years, Russia has seen a growing interest in Hinduism, which first gained prominence in the late 1900s.
Russian couples, inspired by Indian culture, are increasingly opting for Hindu weddings in India. Just last year, a Russian couple tied the knot in Haridwar, following Hindu customs.
Prime Minister Modi's upcoming state visit to Russia, scheduled from July 8 to 9 to meet President Vladimir Putin, will likely focus on strengthening strategic, economic, and military cooperation between the two nations.
