New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning saying that the cyclonic storm is in a very dangerous condition on the west coast of India. As a result, around 100 fishing boats and more than a thousand people have been rescued at the New Mangaluru Port and transported to safe harbor locations.

The IMD had yesterday issued an alert for moderate to heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of Goa, Karnataka and South Konkan. The Meteorological Department said that the severe cyclonic storm that occurred at 11:30 pm last night was centered 200 km west of Ratnagiri in Maharashtra and 310 km south-southwest of Mumbai. It is likely to move towards the coast of Oman during the next 5 days.

Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya may also receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours due to the storm. Earlier, IMD had issued a red alert for the next two days along the coast of Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The Meteorological Department had said in its bulletin a day earlier that "the storm is expected to reach the east-northeast wards by the evening of 25 October".
