Kolkata: Indian Railways has claimed that it lost property worth Rs 84 crore in violence in West Bengal during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Population Register (NRC) between December 13 and December 15. The Railways said this in the report filed before the Kolkata High Court.

The Eastern Railway in an affidavit on Friday before a division bench of Chief Justice TBN Radhakrishnan and Justice A Banerjee said it had incurred a loss of Rs 72.2 crore due to the protests. The affidavit states that the maximum loss of Rs 46 crore has been done in the Sealdah division. The Malda division has incurred a loss of Rs 24.5 crore.
