Railways bring happiness on passengers' face, huge benefit in lockdown

After the announcement of PM Modi's Lockdown 2, the Railways also decided not to run the train. Now Indian Railways will refund about 1,490 crore rupees to the passengers. This amount will have to be returned in lieu of 94 lakh tickets being cancelled. These tickets were booked by the passengers before the nationwide lockdown was implemented.

In their statement, the top railway officials said that Rs 830 crore will have to be refunded for the 55 lakh tickets booked between 22 March and 14 April. The railway had extensively suspended passenger train services on March 22, three days before the 21-day lockdown was implemented. Officials said that for the journey between April 15 and May 3, 39 lakh bookings will have to be refunded for Rs 660 crore.

The lockdown was implemented for 21 days from 25 March to 14 April in the country. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to increase the lockdown till May 3. Railways did not stop booking for the journey starting from 15 April.
