Indian Railways to recruit for IRMS through Civil Services Exam

The Railways ministry has determined to recruit officers for the Indian Railway Management Service through the Civil Services Examination to be conducted by the UPSC for 2023, The ministry said on Thursday, February 2.

The  Railway Ministry, in consultation with the Union public Service commission and Department of Personnel and Training, has decided that recruitment to Indian Railway Management Service will be done through the Civil Services Examination to be conducted by the UPSC for the year 2023," it said in a statement.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Railways decided that the recruitment process for the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), which would be held starting in 2023, will be handled through a specially created examination (IRMS Examination) by UPSC.

It was announced in a notification that the proposed examination plan calls for using the Civil Services (P) Examination to screen applicants for the IRMS (Main) Examination, as well as the IRMSE's Common Qualifying Language papers and the CSE's papers on a few optional subjects. 

The preliminary portion and the major written portion of these two exams are expected to take place concurrently. IRMSE and CSE will both receive notifications.
