Indian Railways is gearing up to introduce the Vande Bharat sleeper train by February 2024, marking a significant milestone in its fleet expansion. The production of these sleeper trains is being overseen by a consortium led by India's Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) in conjunction with Russia's TMH Group, which secured the contract for supplying 120 out of the 200 new Vande Bharat sleeper trains. The remaining 80 units will be crafted by a consortium consisting of Titagarh Wagons and BHEL.

The task of crafting the innovative design for the Vande Bharat sleeper coaches has been entrusted to the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), two prominent players in the Indian railway industry.

The project to develop these indigenous semi-high-speed train sets commenced in mid-2017, and remarkably, within just 18 months, the ICF Chennai successfully completed Train-18.
