New Delhi: The Indian men's shooting team, consisting of Kynan Chenai, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, and Prithviraj Tondaiman, clinched the gold medal in the Trap event at the Asian Games 2023 on October 1. This victory added to India's remarkable performance in shooting at the games. The Indian trio displayed exceptional skill to secure the top position on the podium, surpassing competition from Kuwait and China. They accumulated a total of 361 points, outshining Kuwait's 352 points and China's 346 points. In addition to winning gold, both Kynan Chenai and Zoravar Singh Sandhu qualified for the individual final.

This triumph brought India's shooting medal tally at the Asian Games to an impressive 21, which includes 7 gold, 9 silver, and 5 bronze medals. The Indian shooting contingent's stellar performance in the 2023 Asian Games was a redemption of sorts after their lackluster showing at the Tokyo Olympics. Earlier in the day, the Indian women's trap team secured the silver medal, with Rajeshwari Kumari, Manisha Keer, and Preeti Rajak finishing in the second position with 337 points, just behind China.

The Indian shooters, led by former world champion Rudrankksh Patil and Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, had a strong presence at the Asian Games, with 33 members competing in various rifle, pistol, and shotgun events. This medal haul of 21 is India's best-ever performance in shooting at the Asian Games, marking a significant achievement for the country's shooting contingent. Among the standout performers were Sarabjot Singh, who topped the qualifying rounds and secured a gold medal in the men's 10m air pistol team event, and Divya TS, a member of the silver medal-winning women's 10m air pistol team.

Noteworthy gold medal winners included Sift Kaur Samra in the Women’s 50m rifle 3 positions, Palak Gulia in the Women’s 10m air pistol, and the teams of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran in Men’s 50m rifle 3 positions, Manu Bhaker, Rhythm Sangwan, and Esha Singh in Women’s 25m sports pistol, as well as Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Divyansh Singh Panwar in Men’s 10m air rifle.
