After a good start in the FIH Pro League, the Indian women's hockey team is going to try to get back to winning ways in Saturday's first match against Germany, which is high-ranked but struggling with poor form. Playing for the first time in the Pro League, the Indian women's team has defeated China 7.1 and 2.1 in the first two matches in Muscat. India, ranked ninth in the world, after which defeated sixth-ranked Spain by 2.1 but lost 3.4 in the return stage last month. Despite this defeat, the Indian team has moved to the third position in the FIH Pro League table with nine points after three wins and one defeat. Savita Poonia, who is captaining the team in place of the injured Rani Rampal, is expected to perform better at the Kalinga Stadium.

Losing the last-minute goal in the last match against Spain was heavy on India. Based on the current form, India's fight against Germany, the world's 5th ranked team, looks heavy. The German team has also played two matches so far but Belgium beat them 1.0 and 3.1. The team is going to return to the league after October. The head coach of the Indian team Yaneke Shopman is well aware of what the German team can do despite returning after the break. "The German team is the best team in the world in terms of basic skills and has been playing consistently well. Their defence is strong and they attack fast.''

The Indian team has 2 new faces in the form of Akshata Abaso Dhekale and Deepika Jr. The second match is scheduled to be played on Sunday. The Indian women's and men's team were supposed to have matches together, but the men's teams' matches have been postponed after cases of corona infection were detected in the German men's team.
