Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has said that he will not be able to play hard court tennis tournaments in Indian Wells or Miami as he has not been vaccinated against Covid and will not be able to travel to the US. Djokovic tweeted that the Centers for Disease Control has confirmed that the rules are not going to change so he will not be able to play in the US. Djokovic has played only one tournament this year in Dubai and has slipped to second place in the world rankings.
He has not got the Covid vaccine, due to which he will not be able to play the Australian Open in January. He was named in the draw of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, although the organizers of the tournament have said that only those taking the full dose of the corona vaccine will be allowed to play in it.
Earlier there were reports that world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia has won his first win of the year by defeating Lorenzo Musetti of Italy 6-3, 6-3 at the Dubai Championships here. Djokovic was unable to defend his title at the Australian Open last month due to lack of vaccination. His visa has also been canceled after reaching Melbourne. The United Arab Emirates granted him permission for this tournament and Novak has started with a win in the tournament he won five times.
