Singapore: Dr. S Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, highlighted India's unique approach to its relationships with Russia and the United States during a lecture at the Institute of South Asian Studies in Singapore. He characterized India's stance as a "multi-vector" policy, emphasizing that India's non-alliance culture allows it to manage relations with both nations simultaneously.

During his visit to Singapore, Jaishankar addressed questions regarding India's strategy in navigating its ties with Russia and the US. He stressed the importance of maintaining non-exclusive partnerships, especially when interests and relationships may appear to conflict.

Jaishankar drew parallels between India's approach to Russia and the US and its stance on other international relationships, such as with Israel and Palestine. He explained that India aims to foster positive relations with various countries without aligning exclusively with any single nation.

In discussing India's diplomatic challenges, Jaishankar noted that countries with strong alliance cultures have a clearer framework for decision-making. However, India, as a non-aligned nation, must carefully consider its relationships and navigate complex international dynamics independently.

Responding to a journalist's comparison of India to a "young America" in terms of its political landscape and innovation, Jaishankar expressed uncertainty about the analogy, stating it was the first time he had heard such a description.

Jaishankar's insights shed light on India's diplomatic approach, emphasizing its flexibility and commitment to maintaining relationships with multiple global powers.
