India's COVID immunisation coverage surpasses 158.88 crore

New Delhi: India's cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage reached 158.88 crore on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, after nearly 76 lakh vaccine doses were provided in the past 24 hours.

According to a statement from the ministry, India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage reached 1,58,88,47,554 as of 7 a.m. today, with 76,35,229 vaccine doses administered in the last 24 hours. It stated that this was accomplished through 1,70,80,295 sessions. The vaccine has been given to over 56 lakh people as a precaution.

So far, 56,66,263 precautionary doses have been procvided, according to the ministry. Healthcare professionals received 21,52,696 doses, frontline employees received 18,65,300 doses, and those over 60 with co-morbidities received 16,48,267 doses. 3,73,04,693 vaccination doses have been delivered to people aged 15 to 18.  On January 16, 2022, the one-year COVID vaccination effort in India came to an end.

The vaccination push began last year with healthcare personnel, then expanded to frontline employees, then persons over 60 years old and those over 45 years old with comorbidities on March 1 of that year. It was then extended to everyone over the age of 45 on April 1, 2021, and then to everyone over the age of 18 on May 1, 2021.
