New Delhi: Rohit Sharma and co. have been dubbed strong contenders for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year, by former England captain Eoin Morgan.

Although India hasn't won an ICC championship in more than ten years, being the hosts gives them an advantage in the ODI World Cup. The ideal team lineup for the major competition has not yet been determined by the Asian Giants.

Eoin Morgan, who led his team to victory in the 2019 World Cup, believes the Indian team has what it takes to win the World Trophy this year.

“The team has formidable skills, and can be strong contenders in the upcoming World Cup,” Morgan told.

Morgan not only praised the Indian team but also their support base, who helped them win the 2011 World Cup. He continued, "The enthusiasm and passion displayed by Indian fans are unparalleled."

According to Morgan, the intense passion of Indian fans gives the game a special flavor.

The players who were a part of the team that won the World Cup in 2011 were encouraged to "engage with and learn from the experiences" of the Indian team, according to Morgan.

When it comes to handling high-pressure situations and performing on the biggest stage, the senior players can prove to be invaluable assets.

India won the 2011 ODI World Cup by six wickets over Sri Lanka, giving them their first World Cup victory since 1983.

Cricket players, in Morgan's opinion, have a "golden opportunity" to compete in the 2023 World Cup in India. He furthered his point by stating that the marquee event is the highest level at which many players make their global debuts while others signify the end of their illustrious careers.

Morgan also argued for the adoption of the T10 format in international cricket. “The T10 format should also be considered, allowing cricket to expand its reach and inclusivity”, he said.

The adoption of the format has already been the subject of ongoing debate in the cricket community, but no decision has yet been made regarding its inclusion in international cricket.
