New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made significant achievements in the last decade. ISRO has created history by successfully launching a total of 47 missions during PM Modi's tenure. Since its inception in 1969, ISRO has carried out a total of 89 launch missions, of which 42 missions took place in a span of 45 years before PM Modi's tenure. However, in just 9 years, PM Modi's government has crossed this figure with 47 missions, which shows the commitment towards India's development by the year 2047.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, ISRO continues its impressive launch record under PM Modi. Indeed, the Government of India has also prioritized the activities of the space agency, resulting in more launches during this period than previous governments. ISRO has used four different launch vehicles for these missions. The agency has also implemented changes such as the establishment of a PSLV integration facility to streamline the launch process and increase industry participation to manufacture the launch vehicles. ISRO's successful missions include the launch of several foreign satellites, totaling 424 in number. Of the 47 missions carried out over the past nine years, only three had failures and did not reach their intended orbits. These failures were attributed to specific technical issues. Despite these challenges,

Modi government opened the doors of space for the private sector: –

Explain that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India has opened the doors of the space sector to the private sector. This means that private companies can now participate in space related activities. The decision was taken in 2020 to relieve the country's space agency ISRO from the burden of some smaller missions and allow them to focus on bigger missions. The move is aimed at increasing opportunities for commercial activities in India's space market.

A significant development in this regard was the launch of the country's first private rocket named 'Vikram-S' on November 18, 2022. The rocket successfully placed into orbit three satellites with payloads from both domestic and foreign customers. With this launch, India joined the league of countries whose private companies send rockets into space. The entry of private companies in the space industry will help in reducing the workload on ISRO. The 'Vikram-S' rocket marks the beginning of private sector participation in India's space programmes. This paves the way for private companies to develop rockets of various sizes and capabilities. This partnership with private companies will reduce the burden on ISRO and allow them to focus on their core missions.

The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACE) has authorized an Indian company Skyroot to launch the rocket. This is an important milestone for the private sector in India. Additionally, around 100 start-ups have partnered with ISRO to work on space technology and innovation. About 10 of these companies are dedicated to developing satellites and rockets. Overall, the entry of private sector in India's space industry is a big step. It provides new opportunities for innovation and collaboration while fostering the development of the country's space capabilities.
