India remains a key strategic partner for the US despite concerns over its ties with Russia, affirmed the Biden Administration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Russia for the 22nd India-Russia summit drew global attention amidst the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

During talks with President Putin, PM Modi emphasized that a resolution to the Ukraine conflict cannot be achieved through military means. The Pentagon and the State Department reacted separately, acknowledging India's longstanding relationship with Russia while expressing reservations.

Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Pat Ryder highlighted India's strategic importance, noting ongoing dialogues that include discussions on its ties with Russia. Meanwhile, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller reiterated concerns over India's relationship with Russia, emphasizing ongoing diplomatic engagements to address these issues.

India has consistently defended its "special and privileged strategic partnership" with Russia, underscoring continued bilateral momentum despite international pressures. India's stance on the Ukraine conflict, advocating for dialogue and diplomacy, contrasts with US positions urging stronger support for Ukraine's sovereignty.

Ryder emphasized Russia's isolation due to its aggressive actions, contrasting with efforts to portray international engagement through visits like Modi's to Moscow. He highlighted Modi's recent meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, affirming India's commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Miller echoed calls for India to align with UN principles on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, underscoring ongoing US engagement to urge India towards a peaceful resolution.
