Legend: In the Golden Age, a majestic king named Indrasen used to reign. The name of his kingdom was Mahimati. One day Narad Ji attended the court of Indrasen and told the king about his father. Narad told the king that his father was in Yamlok. He made a mistake in his previous birth, which is why he is compelled to live in Yamlok. Narad told the king that if Indrasen had a vow of Indira Ekadashi of the Krishna paksha of Ashwin Mas, he will attain heaven.

The king urged Narad Ji to elaborate the Indira Ekadashi's vow. On this, Narad Ji said that before Ekadashi, fast of Dashmi should be kept. And fast on Ekadashi date and do charity after worshipping God. Narad Ji told Indrasen that fasting in this way would give his father attain heaven. King Indrasen did as told by Narad Muni. His father attained heaven because of Ekadashi's vow.
