Innova Crysta Diesel Bookings Halted; know why

It was reported around mid-August 2022 that Toyota was no longer accepting bookings for the diesel variants of its best-seller, the Innova Crysta. The carmaker has now offered an explanation for its decision.

“Due to a very high demand pattern which has resulted in an increased waiting period for the diesel variant of Innova Crysta, TKM has decided to temporarily stop taking orders for the diesel variant,” states Toyota in its official statement.

The 2.4-liter engine in the diesel models in question produced 150 PS and 360 Nm, and there was a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Additionally, Toyota has guaranteed that orders for the Innova Crysta's diesel versions that have already been verified would be honoured, stating, “We are making efforts to supply the vehicles to customers who have already made bookings with our dealers.”

“However, we will continue to take orders for the petrol variant of Innova Crysta,” added the automaker, referring to the 2.7-liter petrol engine choice for the MPV. It offers the same gearbox choices as the diesel engine and generates 166PS and 245Nm.

The petrol variants of the Innova Crysta are priced from Rs 17.45 lakh to Rs 23.83 lakh while the diesel variants were priced between Rs 18.9 lakh and Rs 26.54 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

Later this year, the new Innova, which is most likely going to be dubbed Innova Hycross, is most likely going to debut internationally. To compete with the newest MPV models on the market, it will have an entirely new exterior and interior as well as a number of new amenities.

Due to their (expectedly) comparable fuel economy ratings, the petrol-hybrid powertrain would make a good substitute for the MPV's diesel engine. After the compact SUV Urban Cruiser Hyryder, this would be Toyota India's second mass-market hybrid product.

With no direct competitors, the Toyota Innova MPV has enjoyed unrivalled domination in its market for almost 20 years. It would have a strong-hybrid powertrain and be the first mass-market people carrier in India. It should continue to provide a unique experience.
